“Innovation bridges workforce shortages: fewer hands, more efficiency”
PJ Lee & Sons Limited’s challenge was efficient logistics in the sorting and storage process to address the shortage of flexible seasonal staff created by the Brexit. With two configurations of the Fully Automatic BoxFilr, the work is now done with as many as four fewer men.
One of the requirements, however, was that the machines be able to handle the five different and sometimes outdated boxes on the farm, so that 18,000 boxes did not suddenly need to be replaced as well. Working closely between Christopher Lee, VHM and partner Standen Engineering, custom modifications were therefore made to these machines to achieve this.
Christopher Lee sees the possibilities growing with the purchase of these machines. For next season, he plans to run the two now separate systems side by side and coordinate them to save another forklift operator.
